In February 2010, the distinguished lawyer and academic, Professor the Baroness Deech of Cumnor, gave a lecture at Gresham College entitled: Sisters, sisters, there were never such devoted sisters  as part of the series, Family Relationships and the Law since the 1960's. In it she asks why it is that, when a daughter has taken care of her elderly parents throughout her life, she does not have rights when they die, or why, when two sisters have lived together for decades, they are treated less generously than civil partners when one of them dies.
